Benedict RhodinSapphire sat by a patch of pretty roses, studying their features carefully. Today she wasn't wearing a mask, or carrying any weapons. She had decided to spend some alone time, and not injure anyone unless she absolutely needed to. She had curled and pinned her hair today, and she was wearing a spotted red dress with white heels. It was probably the nicest thing she had worn at all her time at the academy. Sapphire stroked a rose's petals, making sure to avoid the thorns. Mentally, she compared herself to a rose. Pretty, but sharp with thorns. She grinned from her thoughts.

"You should smile more!" A male's voice suggested, a jeans-and-T-shirt African American half-blood suddenly perching on the ledges enclosing the plants. "Make's you look more beautiful than you already are." Ben grinned, sighed. "It's way closer to Africa in here than anywhere else," He commented, looking around. "Not as many dead bushes or random stupid tourists, but you know, close enough."

She turned to see Ben, who she had met at the cafeteria. "I, uh... Thanks." She grinned. Ben had complimented her, and she seemed to like that. He was so cute, shaggy golden hair and all. She decided she liked him, despite him being a half-blood. Suddenly she had knots in her stomach and she was dizzy. Was this love? She hated it... But liked it at the same time.
Sapphire laughed, easing her sudden nervousness. "I guess it's pretty close." She smiled.

"Barely," Ben corrected, smiling. "So. What's your half-blood shift? I'm bored and the flower are beautiful - you're a flower in that sense - but they're insane and smell so strongly. I'm going insaaaAAAne!!" He laughed. Ben wasn't even sure what he was doing. It was like the lionesses back in Africa, but... different. More human.

She smiled for real, but pretended to act shy when the question came up about her half-blood shift. "I'd rather not say. It's pretty embarrassing." Sapphire laughed for a couple seconds but stopped to study him. He was kind-hearted, she could tell, and that was a reason why she liked him. "Don't mind me asking, but how did you get here all the way from Africa?"

Ben shrugged. "We - Jake and I - found a few tickets lying around and bought 'em. Turns out it was over-seas, too. How'd you get to the academy?" He asked, grinning. He picked one of the roses, broke the thorns off if it, touched the petals delicately.

"I, uh..." She hesitated. She wasn't ready to tell him everything, that was for sure. "I found some tickets on the street and came here." It wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the whole story. She had found tickets on the ground, but not before escaping her father and getting weapon training here and there.

Ben nodded to show she trusted her. After a moment's hesitation, he held out the rose, smiling warmly. "So you remember that no matter the thorns, there's beauty under your mistakes." He meant it as a joke, more as just a friendly gesture. He couldn't possibly know who Sapphire really was and what she really did and her past. Ben just wanted her to know that she could get past anything.

"Thanks." She smiled and accepted the rose. Maybe he liked her? Giving a rose to someone was generally a romantic move. Or at least that was how Sapphire considered it. "So... Do you have a girlfriend?" She kept eye contact with him, smiling all the while.

|Oh gawsh you aren't even reading my posts | He shook his head. "A few lionesses were always following me around, but I mean, I wasn't really ever impressed," He admitted, shrugging. "I suppose I'm just waiting to see who I'll be with. Lions have one mate until one of them dies. You can see the conflict of human-lion, huh?"

| Whaa? Yeah I am | "That's interesting." She said truthfully. "Yeah, I can see that." She understood him. If a lion has a mate until one of them dies, and he's part lion, he has to pick his mate carefully. She sighed. Sapphire probably wasn't right for him, then, if he has to pick carefully. Just give up your crush on him! Her mind screamed at her, telling her to just drop her feelings for him and find someone else. But she wouldn't. It was the first crush she'd ever had, and she was sticking with it.

"You don't sound excited," Ben teased, prodding emotionally. "What's wrong, Little Cub? Got a pouty face on?"

"What?" Sapphire said, startled, a little bit lost in her own thoughts. "No. I'm just trying to picture having to pick one boyfriend for the rest of my life. It must suck." She grinned to show she was fine.

|OH YOUR SIGGY ♥|
Ben shrugged. "It's easy for most lions. But when you're half human.. It's less so. I'm sure I can bend the rules a bit, though. It's just instinct, that's all," he insisted, lying down on his back on the ledge, head turned so he could see Sapphire easily. "And no need to imagine. That's how life works in some ways."

| Lol thx The text needs to be a different color though. It's hard to see for me | She understood. She trusted her instincts all the time. Well, sometimes rather. But she trusted her instincts now. "Hey, Ben, uhm... Would you like to go down to the Lake with me sometime? Maybe picnic or something?" Sapphire asked, nervous all the while. "I don't exactly have many friends and it gets pretty lonely."

A wide smile. "I'd love to!" he exclaimed, maybe a little too excited. "I'll see you tomorrow? Oh, this is going to be so fun! Just don't you DARE push me in! I'll of course go!" He was joking of course about the water. Mostly. He didn't really care. Ben smiled brighter, sat up.

She grinned- he really wanted to go to the lake with her! She didn't exactly consider it a date, just a friendly thing. But still! "Great! Tomorrow works!" This would be great! She was really excited. A deep red blush grew on her face, but she kept her smile. "See you there then, I guess!" She started to walk off, walking backwards but looking over her shoulder so she didn't run into anything.
