[[ YES MY LOVES YOU HEARD CORRECT. CODY IS OFFICIALLY BEING REVIVED. ]]
Being out of any social circles had it's perks. You stayed out of trouble, you stayed uninvolved, you didn't put yourself out there just to get shot down.
But there were also disadvantages.
Cody was...well, you could say he was a little out of the loop. Word had gone around and since Cody didn't know anyone...it conveniently flew over his head. He heard whispers here and there of a "shadow" lurking around the forest but passed it off as a stupid superstition. The ferret half-blood was afraid of many things, yeah, but they all were real. He didn't get why everyone was making such a big deal over a shadow.
Whispers about Logan, however, Cody had paid attention to. The thought of the tiger sent chills up the boy's spine, the thought of running into him scared him.
Walking through the forest he hoped his rather good intuition would keep him out of trouble, though reflecting on what had happened the last few times he went out in the forest he started thinking it was a bad idea.

Brenda hated being... well, scared. It made her insides gurgle like molten iron, and chilled her toes and fingers to ice. The squirrel was camping out in her tree fort, a fairly nice room hollowed out inside an extremely large and strong tree with a small hole as an entrance. Huddled with her legs drawn to her chest, resting against the slightly damp wood wood wall, Brenda let herself think about anything other than Logan and Shadow; The carpet of grass needs to be replaced since it's getting dry; Jack doesn't talk to me that often anymore, so does he still love me?; Who's walking by? Thoughts interrupted by footsteps outside, Brenda crawled on all fours to the small hole tucked into the nook of the tree hidden behind an up-growing branch. Peeking through, she was able to determine that the boy wasn't Logan, nor Shadow, nor anyone she had met thus far. Brenda shifted into her squirrel form and squeezed through the gap, perching on the branch momentarily before scurrying down the trunk to land on the ground, shifting back to a squirrel-tailed human before grinning toward the fellow half-blood despite her shyness. "Uh, hi?" Brenda managed to ask, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose.

Cody had jumped slightly when he heard quiet scuffling nearby, looking around to find out where it was coming from. Eventually his eyes landed on the squirrel halfblood as she revealed herself, and despite not really being used to direct interaction Cody decided not to keep walking.
Besides she had already spoken to him and now it would be rude.
"H-hi," Cody replied quietly, wondering silently whether Brenda would try to start a conversation or leave him alone.

Brenda grinned warrily, not really knowing what to do in those circumstances. After all, usually people jumped to Hi! My name's Logan and I'm half tiger. What's your name? and she would answer carefully. But it seemed she had met her match when it came to shyness, or so it seamed. Really, the new kid seamed more self-contained than shy, and it made the squirrel half-blood a little self-concious. "Uh, I'm Brenda," she introduced, rubbing her arm against the day's chill.

Cody tilted his head to one side at the other's attitude, wondering why she wasn't speaking up. Even he was used to people with bursts of energy, and he hadn't exactly met anyone else who didn't leap at the chance for conversation.
"Cody," he replied simply, shuffling his feet awkwardly as though waiting for her to continue. When she didn't, he decided to go ahead.
"...I'm a bit confused about the rumors going around," Cody admitted, more quietly at first as he found his voice. "Why is everyone so afraid of a shadow? They're all hiding away...am I missing something?"

|Scardy-squirrel|
Fear tinging them, Brenda's eyes flew wide open and she pressed her finger to her lips, looking around frantically. Inhaling to catch her unease and exhaling to throw it outside, she refocused her brown eyes on Cody, withdrawing her finger from her lips and crossing her arms around her stomach. "Rumor is that Shadow has been taking people hostage and beating them close to death," Brenda muttered, stepping closer so she could speak quieter. "People say she's crazy and an assassin, and more ruthless than Jack. Apparently she did like all the beating to.. to Jack." Brenda quaked a little at the thought of her boyfriend, laying there, bleeding, her heart racing in cold fear when she found out how brutally he'd been injured. "Uh, I have a little place up in the tree," Brenda said, pointing up. "If your shift is a small animal, w-we could camp out in there? I.. I don't want Shadow to hear." The tail-twitching half-blood cast her eyes around again, chewing on her lip anxiously.

"Shadow's a person?," Cody asked, eyes widening as things started to make more sense. He hadn't been very updated at all had he. His lips pressed together in a thin and worried line, now that he knew that standing out in the open so obviously seemed like a very bad idea indeed. "...I hadn't heard about that..."
Cody nodded at her next comment, agreeing.
"Y-yeah, I'm half-ferret so...I can fit," he answered.

Nodding finality, Brenda shifted into her animal form after noting for Cody to follow her, her tail twitching as motivation. Chattering faintly, Brenda turned and began scurrying up the tree trunk, perching at the branch bending out from the hole before squirming through. Inside, Brenda glanced around the room, shifting back to a human to cover up a hinged trapdoor she had fixed into the floor for safe-keeping of some items, then curled up against the wall.

Cody looked up to where Brenda had gone before shifting into his own white ferret form. He wasn't exactly used to climbing trees...it was a little more difficult to clutch the bark than he thought it would be, but soon enough he found himself sitting on the branch next to Brenda, tail flicking anxiously and eyes scanning the ground for anyone that could be following them.
He followed her in shortly after, shifting to his usual human form once inside. He looked around, admiring the place.
"I didn't know trees were so roomy..." he commented.

Brenda grinned mildly, her tail flicking graciously. "They can be," she agreed, licking her lips again. "So, uh, are you new or something? I haven't seen you around at all."

"Hmm?" Cody asked before words processed in his mind and he jumped back to attention. "Oh...no. I've been around since the beginning of the Academy...my brother and I were some of the first halfbloods to come here. He's not...around, I don't know where he went. Me, I just don't get around that much...? I suppose.."

Brenda nodded, thinking with only a bit of confusion. "So, who's your brother?" she asked, tilting her head a little.

"A-alec," Cody sighed, remembering the energetic halfblood with a pang. "He didn't have the chance to meet too many people before he left but...he was pretty nice."
"So, anyone you know? Nobody's been hurt by...uh...Shadow, have they?"

The half-blood shifted her weight nervously. "Well, too many people have been hurt.." she commented, thinking of Jack and his smiles and how nice he had been. "My boyfriend too. He was their first... their first actual victim, not just hostage." A single tear rolled down Brenda's cheek, but she whipped it off with the heel of her hand, sniffling pain. "But he's strong. He'll make it."

Cody shifted his weight from side to side awkwardly, realizing that had not been the question to ask though he wasn't quite sure what to do about it.
What did people usually do to comfort others?
He stepped closer to Brenda, uncertainly rubbing her back slowly, the touch hesitant at first but soon he eased into the hopefully comforting gesture. "...sorry," he murmured quietly. "I didn't know."

Brenda shook her head, whipped away a tear, smiled half-heatedly. "N-no, it's fine," She muttered, a chill running down her back from his comfort. It's been so long since someone has shown any sort of compassion for me, She thought painfully. "It's not your fault."
