His wings are pretty big, they need to me proportional enough that they can support his weight (and sometimes the weight of others). I've actually put quite a bit of thought into Damian's physical bird features. He has a lighter bone structure, stronger and slightly bigger lungs (so he can breathe at high altitudes where the air is lighter) and part of his vocal chords are like that of a snowy owl's so he can replicate the call of one.

I'm a nerd.

Even then Damian's wings are still able to be closed in tightly and kept out of the way. When they do that they actually do shrink a bit to fit, he shifts a little more human when he closes them without realizing it.
