(Open to one.)
Hunter strolled through the forest, hands in his pockets. The teen kicked a rock forward as he walked, slightly frustrated. He didn't want to be here. Especially not anymore. Before he could tolerate it, but he knew now he was no safer here then at home, if he could call his little apartment a real home. Everyone said there was only one human here, but if one got in, there was no doubt in Hunter's mind that there were more.
He let out a deep breath, trying to calm himself down before he got too angry. There was a reason he had become so detached from everyone, after all, and it wasn't only that he was trying to stop himself from caring about anyone. If he got too emotional about anything, fox ears, a fox tail, and fangs would appear on him. While you were surrounded by humans, you couldn't let that happen. You'd get exposed. And be killed. He found himself questioning why he bothered a lot, but always shrugged it away. He was still here because he wanted to help others, however oddly he showed it.
Maybe somebody else could see through him.

Mei, a young half-blood, was walking through the forest. She was wearing her usual outfit, a white and pink dress and a hat with a pink ribbon around it. She was quite sad, mostly because her parents died, AND her sister. It all hit hard on her because she was so young. Also, her childhood "monster", Totoro, had left her. There was nobody who she loved in the world who was alive. Just remembering this almost made her want to cry. Mei was just about to, until she bumped into somebody. She was a clutz after all. "I-I'm sorry, mister...I didn't mean to.." whimpered Mei.

Hunter looked down, anger fading from his face as he saw his "attacker". 9, maybe 10 years of age, with light brown hair, Hunter knew this girl wasn't a threat, even if she was human. "It's fine," he replied. "I don't mind, honestly. I've been having an off day." He acted more outgoing around younger children, since they could be more easily offended and he knew that. "Are you alright?" he asked, noticing the tears on her face. "You're safe here, you know that, right?" In Hunter's mind that was half a lie, but other half-bloods, himself included, would protect Mei if she was in danger.
"Want to talk about it?"

"Oh, okay. I-I'm fine, I'm just remembering my past. And, I know that I'm safe here. I'd rather not, sorry. It will only make me cry harder. B-But can I have a hug? Please?" Asked Me I as she rubbed her eyes. This boy was being nice to her, and usually, older kids would not be that nice to her, no matter what her age.

Hunter blinked for a moment, surprised by the sudden request. Quite surprised. Most people thought he was somebody who didn't care about anything, that he was detached and alone, and yet this girl who he had talked to for what, a few seconds? She had been so damaged and so young she would accept a hug from anyone who didn't shoo her away.
"...alright..." he said slowly. He tried picking Mei up and hoisting her up so she could sit on top of his shoulders. "How about that? How's the view up there?"

(She said hug but whatever. ) Mei smiled as he picked her up. "It's high! Hehe, you're nice. Oh, what's your name? My name is Mei." Said Mei. (There's really nothing else to say without powerplaying.)

(Hunter knows she said hug. He wanted to get her in a better mood. That usually cheers people up. 'Nuff said.)
Not many people said that about Hunter. Then again, he never acted this way around people that much. "Hunter," he answered. He might be more cheerful, but even then Hunter liked to be kind of quiet. "What animal are you?" Hunter smiled a bit in his head as he saw Mei smile at him. He didn't get to experience it a lot since half the time it resulted in his fox ears popping up and people noticed that.

"I'm half brown fox cub. Nice to meet you Hunter! I feel much more happier now, thanks for picking me up!" Said Mei as she smiled at Hunter. Nobody in a long time had been that nice to her. And Mei was happy about that. Even though she just met him, she wanted him to be the brother she never had. They kind of looked alike, sort of.

Hunter lifted Mei back up again and set her on the ground once again. He set his hands in his pockets again, giving a small smile. "It was no trouble," he replied. "I'm glad you had fun. I'm a red fox." Though at the moment you wouldn't be able to tell, other than his oddly dark red hair, he was rather fox-like in attitude. "Are you having fun at Animalia Academy yet? I haven't been here long but I'm sure it's a great place. You might find some other people your age around too, I've seen some around."

Mei shook her head. In fact, she hasn't really met anyone besides Hunter. "But I hope I make some friends! I think the Academy is great so far." Said Mei as she smiled brightly. Mei suddenly hugged Hunter. She felt so cheerful around him, and she just had to hug him.

Hunter raised his arms up in surprise as Mei hugged him. Admittedly, she had touched the soft spot in his heart that was reserved for the special people in his life. Slowly he hugged Mei back, especially glad now of all the practice he had hiding how he felt. If he hadn't been able to, he might be blushing and his fox ears would have appeared.
"I'm sure you will," Hunter replied. "You seem like somebody who wouldn't have any trouble getting a friend."

"So, are you my friend?" Asked Mei as she looked up at Hunter. If he said she would be good at making fiends, so was she his friend?

"Of course," Hunter replied. "Why not?" Hunter blew his hair out of his face, but even so it just floated back down again. It wasn't like Hunter had expected it to work, anyway. "It's getting late. Do you know what dorm you are in yet?"

Mei smiled, but then shook her head. She hasn't found a dorm yet. "I haven't. Could you help me?" Asked Mei.

"I can't just pick out a dorm for you," Hunter replied. "We can go see which one you've been assigned to, though. If you need anything, I'm in dorm 7."

Mei smiled brightly. "Thanks Hunter!" said Mei. To her, Mei and Hunter were very close. Now was the time for Mei to ask Hunter a very special question. "Um, Hunter? I know this may sound weird, but, could you be my brother?" asked Mei. Now, she wasn't asking like, "Oh my gosh we're so much alike! Could you be my brother?" in a joking matter. Hunter was the only person in the world who really cared for her. And that was something Mei didn't get very often.

The question took Hunter by surprise. "Well, you know I'm not actually your brother, but if you need a friend, I'll be here for you," Hunter replied. "You can think of me as your big brother. Now let's go find your dorm." Hunter took hold of Mei's hand, leading them off into the school hallways.
