Keeping to the shadows was what she did best. Being invincible and unnoticed was practically her life. The unwanted attention she did manage to get did not end pretty. That was her life practically. The panther half-blood had joined the academy to get away from the human world. She was told this place was a safe haven for people like her. But she did not trust any of them. Not yet anyway. Angel never trusts anyone because they end up just stabbing you in the back. She ha far too much experience with that in her 17 years of living. The unwanted and disgraced child of two people who made a mistake one night. She knew it; she lived with it. No matter how much she wanted to have a better life with a good family; maybe a sibling or two living in a cute house with a white picket fence. No instead she lived on the streets. Beaten; disgraced, and humiliated in every possible way both psychically and mentally. But here was her new start. Even if she meant no one to call a friend she would stay here alone if she had no. Secretly anyways. Angel's blue eyes peeked up from behind white bangs as she hiked her way towards the lake. Her earbuds in her ears as she listened to hard rock music to her hearts content. Happy to be alone without having to worry about someone hunting her or wanting to harm her. Finding a good tree over the lake she easily climbed if thanks to her agile cat reflexes and made herself comfortable on a branch. Content to watch the view while her music blasted in her ears; her cat ears hidden under a red beanie while he tail hung loosely and occasionally flicking back and forth in the air. Benedict Rhodin

Well, it was hardly sane to be in a good mood with every thing that had been going on around the Academy. Ben was still a bit tender on the whole Marie/Shadow thing, but he tried not to let it show. Fear is an enemy. And I'm sure those two assassins have already figured that out. There hadn't been very many trees in Africa. Nothing strong enough to hold a young cub's weight, let alone a full-grown lion. That's why Ben was in the trees, snoozing away on a thicker branch, lion-form. So, forests were a wonder to Ben, and though he missed his home with all his heart, he would gladly sacrifice it for his new home - Well, supposing the assassins went away. That's what bothered the half-blood boy the most: no matter what, the assassin topic always wiggled its way into your thoughts or conversations. The tree quivered. Ben blinked and looked down, finding a half-blood girl a few branches below him. He smiled to himself. She's new. Anyone else would be on their toes and looking over their shoulder constantly. So this girl must not know about the dangers here. The way Ben kept his fear internal was by joking around. That's what he did. Gripping the branch with his claws, he swung around, hanging awkwardly upside-down, smiling in a big-cat way. "You know this is probably better for domestic cats, not prairie cats!" Ben joked, sudden strain in his voice. Lions definitely aren't designed for trees!

Angel had been perfectly calm and relaxed on her branch As she listened to music and looked at the view. Until her serenity was disturbed by a boy. Quick as lightening the black haired girl flinched away from him. Teeth bared to reveal feline canines and her blue eyed pupils shrinking to make them look like a cat's. Her ears although under her red beanie where flat on her head a she stared at the feline half-blood. Her instincts blaring like warning bells in her head. She had very bad experiences with males in her life time so she didn't trust any sort of male. Young old; human or half-blood. Even if this one WAS a big cat half blood like her. She didn't bother to reply to him and merely sat stiffly on the branch. Waiting and watching. Benedict Rhodin

Ben hardly expected a response. So, when his paws gave out, he simply slipped off and plummeted to the ground, knocking his head softly on a branch on the way down. Rolling over, Ben stood and shook himself, scattering debris in every direction. He then shifted into his human form and rubbed the back of his head with his hand. "I'm not going to say I'm the smartest..." he mumbled, half to himself. Ben shook himself again, blinking to refocus his eye, which were a little blurry, but not too bad. Returning his smiled, the bow with the coffee-colored skin turned back to the girl, who from his perspective seemed awfully tense and annoyed. "Sorry. I guess you know...." He stated blankly. "Anyway... Uh, I'm Benedict, but no one thinks that's a good name, so I go by Ben."

Her eyes narrowed at his fall. A spark of smug satisfaction in herself at him being hurt. She grew up with men taking advantage of her; they scarred her new ways them one. Boys and the male species where all bad in her point of view. Even if his smile was friendly; to Angel his smile was deceiving; trying to lure her in so she could get hurt later. Not moving from her branch she glared at the lion Halfblood; her tail lashing from side to side as she watched him warily. Not bothering to even reply back to his introduction; why should she? She don't want to give away her name to someone who could possibly use it against her. She merely snarled silently; flashing her canines in warning to him. She wasn't friendly and she didn't like him. Plain and simple. Benedict Rhodin

Ben raised an eyebrow, sitting on a low-hanging branch. "Oookay..." he murmured, still holding his smile. Then, louder, he said, "You know, there are worse ways to die here right now, as I assumed you have heard." The assassin's threat had left Ben wary. He didn't fear half-bloods at the moment, not when he knew well that the murderous humans that stalked the academy could harm him much, much worse. "If I was going to harm you - if any half-blood at the academy, for that matter - was going to threaten you, why did you bother coming?" Ben shrugged, running his fingers through his hair. The human-form boy waited patiently for whatever the girl would do in response, unflinching.

She continued to stare him down warily but seeing as he was on the ground and she in the trees she relaxed ever so slightly. She's have jumped into action and fled by the time he would have gotten up here if he was going to harm her. Her frown turned I to a dark snarl. "I came for peace and shelter. Humans hurt me." She shot back shifting uncomfortably. "I needed a safe place from humans. But it does not mean I will befriend anyone here." She added wrapping her arms around herself. "In the end everyone will hurt me." Benedict Rhodin

"Well, that's one way to look at things," Ben responded simply, shifting his weight. Something about the girl reminded him of Shahinaba, a lioness whom Ben had grown fond of in Africa, shortly before... before she began to distrust his abilities. "So... I don't suppose you'll be answering any of my questions anytime soon, then?" Ben asked after some time. He sat down, gazing up at the girl, not really minding. "Will you at least tell me what I should call you?"

She tugged her red beanie further down her head. Making her stark white bangs hide one half of her face as she looked away from him. He didn't seem like he cared about her so he didn't pose as much of a threat...yet. The black panther sighed at his response and forced herself to not recoil. At least he wasnt human. That made things a fraction better. But he was still male which was a huge downfall in her trust levels. Shifting uncomfortably in the tree the 17 year old tilted her head slightly to let a light blue eye peek through the curtain of bangs. "Angel." She replied quietly. Benedict Rhodin

Bens expression was a mixture of confusion and acceptance. He had heard word of a young girl dying in the academy, and couldn't quite place her name, which was probably bad because before the takeover, he had heard rumors that there would be a statue in her name Angel... Why does that name ring a bell?
"You didn't happen to uh... Die? By any chance?" Ben asked hesitantly, trying to figure it out. Angel... Angel Mason... No ANGELICA Mason.
"Wait, nevermind, wrong person. You just... Reminded me of someone that was at the academy." Ben shrugged, watching with keen brown eyes as a battle scurried past.

She eyed him weirdly when she noticed his deep thought. What was so wrong with her name? Her lip curled in disgust. He was already judging her huh?! She scoffed at him when he asked if she had died. "Do I look dead to you?" She snapped with a icy glare. Some girl that friend of his probably ha been if she was anything like Angel. Probably rude like her. How else would the 17 year old remind him of his friend? "You have pathetic friends if she's anything like me." She commented with a snort but she couldn't help but notice the farlong look on his face when he told her to forget it. "I didn't think people who acted like me could be remembered so easily or be missed." She commented. Subtly hunting to her curiosity about the girl Ben was talking about. Benedict Rhodin

Again, the boy shook his head. "Everyone can be remembered. And someone remembered is missed," Ben offered, smiling weakly. "And she wasn't really my friend - she, eh... Well, she passed just after i arrived at the academy, so I didn't know much about her." Ben shrugged and absently picked up a rock and turned it over and over between his fingertips.
"You obviously don't want my company, so I will leave," Ben announced suddenly, standing sharpled and drawing a breath.

She frowned at his answer. How could she remind him of someone he never met before? That was strange. Her eyes watched as the dejected boy began speaking again and rose to leave. She silently scoffed. If he wanted to leave then she would t stop him. "I never said I didn't want your company." She grumbled softly looking away with an emberessing tint to her cheeks that she his beneath her hair. She hated boys true. But the more she talked to Ben the less threatening he seemed to her. Wrapping her tail around herself she looked up at the view as she added. "You can stay if you want." Benedict Rhodin

After merely a few strides, Ben turned back on his heels and gazed up at the panther half-blood. "Thanks, I guess," he responded, twitching his ears in acknowledgement. "So am I allowed to ask questions or... what?"

She shrugged. "Ya. I guess." She replied as relaxed as she could be in this situation. She wasn't used to talking to boys. She didn't really have anything to hide really. She was an open person once you get to know her. Benedict Rhodin

Ben nodded carefully. "Okay, so where are you from?" he asked, wanting to keep his questions light for the time being. After all, this girl obviously had something against people.

She shrugged. "I don't have an assigned place. I lived on the streets since I was old enough to remember." She replied. "I travel from place to place. When your living on the streets you don't tend to stay in one place in fear of being thrown out or something like that." Angel shrugged with a frown. Benedict Rhodin

"I'm sorry to hear that," Ben responded honestly, licking his lips, which felt dry suddenly. "I moved here from Africa. Learned English quick, then shipped it out here. I used to live with a pride, so I never really stayed put either. Do you want to ask me a question?"

She shrugged. "It's life. Not everyone was born with privileges." She replied. "You don't look African." She smirked slightly eying the guy. "What do you know about the half bloods here at the academy? And what's this about the mishaps going around I heard about earlier?" She frowned. Benedict Rhodin

Ben kind of felt offended at the comment about not looking African; he loved his old home, and wished he could be a part of it without... without pain. "The half-bloods here are all great - besides Logan, stay away from him, he worked with the assassins - and willing to defend anyone. And the mishaps, well-" He broke off, half laughing. "There are two assassins lurking in the academy, one called Shadow - you'll know her when you see her - and Marie - a cameo-dressed girl. Shadow seems to be the leader, as far as we can tell, but they claim to work together. Anyway, it started with just Shadow, and she was torturing people for what seemed like no reason. Then Marie came and made herself known, and they've been putting everyone down. And recently, they claimed control of the academy; no one leaves, any half-blood enters. That's all I know."

Her eyes darkened at the news. This was why she hated people. "Where they humans or Halfbloods? The assassins I mean?" She asked. She didn't like what he just said. Assassins in the academy killing for no reason? That just boiled her blood. She so wanted to rant about the injustice of it all but she don't need to rant at Ben seeing as he was the innocent one. So she just bit her tongue and glared at the ground from her perch on the tree. "And no one has even CONSIDERED banding together and fighting for the school?" She spat. Benedict Rhodin

"We aren't really sure, but many people believe they're human. We know Shadow is from the creepy notes she used to leave on her victims, but Marie hasn't said anything as far as I'm aware," Ben responded hastily, thinking he saw Angel's eyes intensify a little. When she offered her input on banding together, he shook his head urgently. "Y-You don't understand. These two are dangerous, more so than you can possibly think," he cautioned, thinking back to the news of the 24 murdered students. "Just one of them has the potential to wipe out all of the academy. Two can easily hunt down the rest." He gulped. All we can do is talk to them and hope they'll listen.

"So you'll just sit here and wait till they do something? Assassins don't just keep hostages for the fun of things. They have jobs. Hence the words assassins. They aren't going to let you go. Your all sitting here like cattle for the slaughter for them." She glared. "How can you sleep at night knowing you could have stood up to them and another person dies because you couldn't? They are human! They have weaknesses! If we all band together we could do something! But all you guys have no back bone! What kind of lion are you? Cause as far as I'm concerned your not one. Lions are the biggest and the strongest big cats out there. They are majestic and have pride. You....just like the rest of these students are weak!" She stood on her branch and jumped down to be leveled with him. Her blue eyes glaring wildly with rage. "Your a coward, and I hope each person that dies is on your conscious because you had a choice and you didn't take it. Your acting like a helpless kit! If you care about any of the lives in this school and your own you'll think about this. Because the deaths won't stop, the terrorizing wont stop, and the feel of desperation and despair won't stop unless you do something about it!" She snarled at him before she darted through the forest and disappeared. Benedict Rhodin
