Picking up the shattered pieces to mend back into a whole. Too bad it wouldn't ever be the same like it used to be. The bus slowed down and the wheels made a screeching sound as it came to a stop. Xiomara winced with annoyance when she heard the wheels screech to a halt. The door opened and the black-haired girl hopped off the bus. It didn't take her long to get off the bus since she was sitting in the front. Snow had fallen slowly and lightly from the sky. Her bright, blue wings tucked in close to her body.
Brrr.. It was cold! Xiomara fluffed the feathers of her wings to get nice and warm. Her left hand reached out to the falling snow to catch the snowflakes. It was so pretty yet so cold. Her face cringed a little bit and she let out a sneeze that almost seemed effortless. She pulled her hand back and walked towards the school while cuddling up to her wings that were multi-colored with shades of blue. The girl hoped to start a new beginning and leave everything else in the past. Little did she know, things were going to get worse...

A golden hawk came swooping out of the sky, and then shifted into a human, walking on the pavement to the girl. "'Ello." He said, giving a warm smile. "New here, are you? Well, I'm Callum, but you can call me Cal. Half golden hawk, as you can see," He said, nodding to his golden-brown wings behind him.

Too many winged half bloods! Lily wanted to scream. But she stayed in bird of paradise form, musing at the girl with blue wings. The nine year old flew to the sign near the girl. She looked nice. As a tropical bird, Lily was freezing, but she happened to like showing off her beautiful feathers. As Lily was about to turn into Human form, a hawk beat her to the punch, and so Lily just stayed like that. She watched silently, trying to ignored the bitter cold.

Xiomara grew shy and took a step back, hiding behind her curtain of black hair. The man was handsome and he seemed to be much older than her by a few years. It was funny because Xiomara was usually good at connecting with older people. They were mature and understood that she was shy. They didn't press her to talk any more than she wanted to and they just... understood her.
Most of them, anyway. While she was panicking inside, Callum was introducing himself to her. Xiomara felt that she only had to remember his name and that was it. A bird swooped by and perched on the bus stop sign close to Xiomara. It was hard not to notice the bird. It had beautiful wings, and it was different from every day birds you see like cardinals and mockingbirds. Well, it probably depends on where people are from.
Xiomara stared at the bird before she turned back to Callum. "U-Uh... yes. Nice to meet you, Callum... I'm Zoey."

Lily looked at the girl, Zoey. She tweeted a small bird thing and flew, perching on to Zoey's shoulder, wanting to see her reaction. She ruffled her feathers, trying to act like any old bird that was extremely friendly to humans for no reason. She tweeted (softly, just so Zoey's ears wouldn't burst) as if she wanted seeds or something, tilting her head. She caught on that Zoey was shy, seeing the way she hid her face.

"Mm... Mhmm.." she replied and glanced around not knowing what to do. Zoey felt something grab onto her shoulder, and she thought it was someone behind her. Turning her head midway to look behind her, she came eye to eye with the bird. What the heck... What was it doing on her shoulder? Ugh, why can't I even communicate correctly with my own kind? Birds..
Zoey was just antisocial period. The bird looked like it wanted something. The tilt of its head was kind of cute. And, it tweeted in her ear softly. The look it gave her was somewhat related to a dog that would beg for food. "U-Um... hi there." Zoey looked to Callum and blushed hard, trying to hide behind her hair again.

The principal had received word that the half-blood transportation bus was coming in with a new student, and had decided to catch the air before meeting her. Curled on a rock somewhere in the forest in snow leopard form, Claire hardly minded the weather. Sharp ears picking up the unmistakable sound of old breaks, the half-blood lifted her large head and lashed her tail in annoyance with herself. Claire set off at a brisk pace, still slightly weak from the exhausting trek she had endured with two people on her back in order to save a life. Two students had already beaten Claire to the bus stop, a terribly embarrassing fact for her to consume. It really didn't matter, but she felt a kind of frustration that she had slept through the hours. Shifting into a human at the edge of the forest by the path to the academy where Callum and the new girl stood, Claire took in the surroundings. Good thing I've been up-to-date with everyone's names. Though it's a shame that people are coming at such a time as this. Oh well. After pulling the collar of her quarter-sleeve white dress down, as it was choking her a little, she stepped forward, the hem of the dress sweeping around her ankles lightly. She had taken more to dressing appropriately as a principal, though it did bother her slightly. I'm Zoey Claire heard as she approached, her ears flicking against a snowflake that landed too close to the ear fluff. Her tail swished through the hole perfectly snipped into the waist of her dress, and she smiled as she came up beside Callum. "Lily," Claire said, knowing that there was only one Bird of Paradise at the academy, "I'm sure our new student doesn't want to be stood on - literally - by another." Claire held out her hand so Lily could perch on it if she wanted, then turned her warm brown eyes to Zoey. "Welcome to the academy, Zoey. I'm Miss Blakely, the principal. Most just call me Claire, since I used to be a student here myself." She shrugged playfully, but kept her eyes soft and kind.

(Oh gosh I thought you were scolding me... THAT SCARED ME)
Lily cursed silently. Come on I wanted to be cute! "Okay." Lily tweeted in a somewhat human tone. "But I'm staying here. It's nice and warm." That was true. Zoey's hair somehow gave Lily a small snippet of warmness, and it also blocked out some of the cold air.

Cal realized that she was a shy girl. When Claire came, he turned, remembering that he had something to tell her. "Claire," He said, lowering his voice. "I've been seeing markings through the forest. They're all the same, the Japanese symbol of death.

Zoey looked around for a girl that might have been named Lily. Who was that girl talking to? Claire told Lily that she didn't think Zoey would like it if she was being stood on by another. Oh, well, that made sense... sort of. "H-Huh?" Zoey looked at the bird and blinked her blue eyes at Lily. Oh, so the bird was a half-blood. Of course she is! You wouldn't find a Bird of Paradise willingly coming to a place like this.
She backed away a little bit, even if Claire was reaching out to the bird. It was too close for Zoey's comfort. Claire was very pretty and she was so nice. Pretty people made Zoey uncomfortable sometimes. "Nice to meet you, Miss Blakely... But, .. how did you know my name?" The bird on her shoulder started to tweet again, talking to the principal. Lily wanted to stay where she was. Zoey blushed shyly and glanced at Lily every once in a while. She looked at Claire and shrugged her shoulders.
"I-I don't mind if she stays there." she paused and looked at Lily. "But, don't you think it would be warmer inside the school?" Zoey hoped that Lily wouldn't take any offense to that. It's not like she was trying to get rid of the bird, though. Zoey noticed that Callum was standing awfully close to Claire and was whispering something. She tried to look away and pretend she wasn't listening. She respected their privacy at first but she caught a few words. None of those words she could put together to make sense out of it.

Lily tweeted, like a little girl-bird thing. Well, she was a little girl-bird thing. Almost everyone she knew was a bird thing. Zoey seemed very shy, backing away at the other two older ones. Then the two talked, and Lily turned her head sharply. Hearing is a bird's second most important sense. Obviously Lily could hear what they were saying, though a bit of human went through, so she heard something about symbols of death in the forest. Lily's blood ran still. Was this about the assassins?
"Nah. I like being here." Lily's tweet was rather morphed, as her tongue was getting tied with this human-language-through bird thing. She ignored what the others said, and acted like an innocent child. "What bringz you heuur?"

Claire nodded slightly as Callum whispered, flicked her tail to show that it wasn't the time nor place. She smiled kindly, drew her hand back, and entwined her fingers, arms hanging, around her legs. After Lily had tweeted slightly, she decided it was the right time to respond to the question, and pointed up at her ears. "Supreme hearing, I suppose," she said simply, then turned her brown eyes to Lily. "And she's a student - " her eyes flashed apologetically to Zoey, " - Not to put words in your mouth, though.
