Maybe she was an assassin and a kidnapper who happened to enjoy watching her victims suffer, but Opal was no monster. Not like most people thought. She had once been kind and honest, and a little of that stayed, but after her father was killed - granted, he was the lead executor in the HBES - by a group of riled-up half-bloods, she just couldn't bare to be the same. Opal had burst from her cocoon of innocence as the most fearless, intelligent, beautiful, and ruthless butterfly assassin that the world had ever known. The flowers in the greenhouse reminded Opal of her father's grave. Lost in her own world, she almost didn't notice her first victim, Rosemary Jackson, from days prior, a few rows away. Gulping her sudden urge to laugh and pity and recoil at the same time, Opal admired Rosemary's courage to go anywhere alone. Figuring she'd be discovered sooner or later, she meandered her way to the girl's isle, approaching in a way that hopefully wouldn't spook her. "The flowers make it easier to deal with," Opal commented, quite honestly. "To deal with the whole Shadow thing, I mean." Opal reached over and brushed her fingers against a soft pink rose.

Rosemary recognized the voice and turned around to see her feared enemy.
"G... G... Get away from me! Go!" The shy girl started to panic. She had been held hostage by Shadow, the girl in front of her, and her ally Logan had attacked her. Rosemary started to back away from the assassin slowly.

Astonished, Opal threw up her arms, her eyes wide in shock. "W-woah! It's okay!" Opal cooed. She had never really shown her face, and even her clothing was different than that night. "I don't even know you!" That was a lie, of course. Opal just.. well, in all honesty, she wanted to know how the girl was holding up. Apparently, not so well. Well, Opal could hardly hold it against her. Rosemary was a little on the weaker side of the scale. The previous night with another hostage, Damian, came to Opal's mind, and she grimaced. I had to do what I had to do. Plus, he deserved it. "Let me start over," Opal said, quietly. "I'm... I'm Opal. A friend. I'm not going to hurt you. See?" She raised her hands, letting Rosemary look her over. Opal was wearing a ruffled, teal, long-sleeved shirt, a long black skirt, and white and gray flats; very different from Shadow. Opal had figured she could fight just as well with her body when she wasn't on the offensive side and needing to chase someone down.
|Shadow's voice is a little more... bitter than Opal's, if you see what I'm getting at. Plus, don't forget the mask|

| Oh okay. But still, something's gonna happen in this post that gives away her identity thanks to Chase and his post at the lake... |
Despite her instincts Rosemary stayed, and she did take note that the girl looked nothing like Shadow. Except for the hair. That looked familiar. But other than that, the girl looked like any other female at the Academy. Opal... A normal-sounding name.
Wait! Hold up! Rosemary quickly realized something. When she was at the lake and Logan attacked her? He gave away two letters of the name by accident. O and P. Opal. O and P. Opal. Things were coming together piece by piece, and suddenly she was glad she went to the lake, or else she would've fallen for the trick that was happening right in front of her face.
"No! No, no, no! You're lying to me, and I... I... I can see it!" Rosemary was becoming shaky, but she continued. "I went to the lake recently, and Logan attacked me. Don't play stupid and say you... you... you don't know him, because I know you do. He gave away two letters to Shadow's name, I could tell he did it by accident because of how ner... ner... nervous he was. He said O and P. And your... your... your name is Opal! O and P, Opal, O and P, Opal! No more tricks, I know your name! I'm going to tell everyone I know and you will not take anyone hostage anymore!"
Just as quickly as she had finished her sentence she had started running. Away from Opal, away from the Greenhouse, and she was going to go straight to her trusted friend Claire Blakely.

|This did not go how I imagined. I am going to kill Chase| |The plot was supposed to go on for a much longer period of time. Can we try and mend this?|
Opal blinked. What? Logan did WHAT!? A part of her wanted to scream, to shout, and let it all out, but she maintained her cool, shaking her head, not wanting any of it. She could have fixed it, but.... but then she ran. Opal bolted after her, fighting the urge to go her fastest, because even that could expose her further. Slamming on the breaks in front of Rosemary, Opal, eye wide with shock, moved her arms out to the side to stop Rosemary. "Listen! There could be someone else with the letters O and P in their name!" Opal said, layering a trust into her voice. Tears wanted to come, but Opal pushed them back. "My... My twin," Opal continued, coming up with an alibi and letting the tears flow for effect. "My twin, Opine, she just joined Animalia. And she's nuts, and ran into the forest when we got off the bus. It must be her! Listen to me when I say she looks and sounds exactly like me, and I have no idea why you think I did something to you!" The tears were real. But really, Opal was just upset in herself. She knew she shouldn't trust anyone, but the prospect of friends and the chance to not be lonely had pressed her to want someone to trust and be friends with. But perhaps she was destined to be alone. "Please..." And her voice was cracking.

| I'll figure something out | What did she say? Rosemary was startled when Opal actually ran and stopped in front of her, but to hear she had a twin sister at the Academy? That was unbelievable. She knew it was completely possible to have a twin, but to have one at the Academy with you? That was something she hadn't seen or heard of before. It would have to take a lot to convince Rosemary of what Opal had just told her. A piece of Rosemary's old personality showed just then. Kindness and forgiveness. She was going to give Opal another chance, another shot, because maybe this girl needed one. She wasn't going to completely fall for any more of Opal's traps, but she was willing to give Opal the kindness and forgiveness she could use. Rosemary attempted to put her hands on Opal's shoulders. "Opal, that stuff is really hard to believe. But look, I... I... I know this sounds really crazy after all you did to me, but I'm willing to give you another shot. I'm... I'm not the killing type, you can probably already tell. But I think we could be friends. I won't betray you, I won't reveal your real name, I promise. And I will not break that promise. Please, Opal, let's just be friends." She gave the murderous assassin a kind, heartwarming smile, trying to send her the message that things could get better for her.

Opal hesitated. Gaped. She didn't trust her ears. "You... but I..." she shook her head, confused. Dropping the act, she didn't even try to shrug her hands off, let alone try to convince Rosemary anymore. It seemed she couldn't be swayed. "After all the things I said. All the things I did... and I... Adam... And Damian.. and..." And there, collapsing to the ground, sitting with her eyes melting, Opal, someone who had once been so strong, broke. It was probably sleep deprivation, but it seemed as though her grip on intentions had loosened. Opal looked up, into Rosemary's eyes. "W-why would you protect me? I can't even stop m-myself!"

| Lol... Really high muse now |
The murderous assassin had melted. Rosemary frowned, and tears welled up in her eyes, but she stopped them from coming. She hadn't even known what Opal had did to Adam or Damian, but she assumed Opal had taken them hostage. It was what she was known for, after all.
Rosemary kneeled down so she could be at the broken girl's level. "I forgive you. Even the most murderous people can be forgiven." She gave a soft smile. Tears welled up in her eyes again, the moment was so beautiful to her. The strongest person Rosemary knew had crumbled in front of her. "I protect you because I see potential in you, and I know you can change. Opal, at the bottom of your heart I can tell you... you... you have kindness. That's something I used to have and now I lost it."
Rosemary finally let her tears fall.

Again, Opal hesitated. The fire within her had been choked, but it would come back ablaze as ever, and she knew. Shakily, she looked back up from the ground into Rosemary's eyes. "I've killed so many," she muttered, her lip trembling slightly. Opal shook her head more fiercely. "The person I once was is g-gone, with my father, who und-doubtfully killed hundreds like me." Opal looked back down. Part of her yelled thought, What are you doing!? You're ruining everything! But she swallowed it for a while. "I.. I'll.." Suddenly, Opal stood up and wiped her eyes with the back of her hands. "Thank you. But I can't be your friend, as much as I want to. I can't though. I need to get vengeance for my father. And..." Opal paused again, looking into Rosemary's eyes with regretful hostility. "If you tell anyone my true identity... I will.. I will kill you, and... And Adam."

Rosemary stood up with Opal. "Why do you want to get even by killing hundreds of innocent lives when only one life was lost- your father's? Look, my history is hard too. My parents were both half-bloods, but they would constantly fight because my father was half wolf and my mother was half cat. My father died when the HBES burned down my house and my mother died when she fell and the HBES got her. I understand the pain you're still processing. If you have a friend, you'll... you'll... you'll be a little happier."

Laughing in almost a pitying way, Opal shook her head and attempted to take Rosemary's hands in hers. "You don't understand. I'm not a half-blood. My father led the HBES. He's probably the one that gave the command to kill your family," she confided. "And... while operating with a group of HBES, he was killed by the half-bloods he meant to exterminate. Killing half-bloods is in my every being. And I loved my father. I loved, and that's why I hesitated that night, because you made me realize and remember exactly why I am doing what I am." Despair lingered in her eyes. She knew she would regret it, but if Rosemary tried anything, she would take her hostage again. Maybe she wouldn't kill her, but she wouldn't let her tell anyone anything anyway. "I'm sorry."

No.
Opal's dad was the one who killed her family? That couldn't be. But it explained why Opal was so murderous herself.
A now scared Rosemary slowly backed away from Opal. "Your... your... your father killed my family? You... your father killed my family! Because of your family, I lost mine!" She almost backed up into a patch of daisies, but she turned around and stopped herself just before they were destroyed. "Get away from me!" Rosemary started running, and this time she was determined not to stop for anything.

Opal bowed her head, crossing her arms in front of her. Rosemary had the right to be frightened. As the girl ran off, Opal turned and, certainty in her eyes with lingering traces of guilt, called after her, "Remember what I said! I.. I will come after you. Don't tell a soul." With a desperate unease, Opal returned to the rows of roses, climbed up onto a little stone ledge beside a bunch of pink ones, drew her legs to her chest, and rested her head on her knees, facing the flowers that granted so little yet so much comfort.
