A platinum blonde stepped into the clearing where the crystal clear lake was located. There should've been a winged friend of hers, standing next to her side. The winged friend was Zalman Artar, and he was her tour guide around the academy. The lake was their last stop for some reason. It was a little bit farther back in the forest. Lauren could've guessed that the place they were at was a lake. The lake might've been named something but it was just a lake. It looked like they were wrapping things up with the tour. Lauren hoped that they could talk or take a walk around, which they had been walking around for quite a while. I just hope this doesn't become a habit of me asking to hang out with Zalman. He does have a girlfriend after all. I'm sure she wouldn't like that either. "So, this is the lake I'm guessing? It looks very pretty." she said and looked at Zalman, smiling a little. Lauren looked back to the lake and started to walk towards it. "The water looks so clean and refreshing! I'd love to take a dip in it some time. I bet it feels great."

"Yep and yep," Zalman responded, following her toward the shore, walking still despite his best interests. "Though the second yep is more of a usually. It's either freezing cold or just perfect." As they neared the shore Zalman alighted and hovered over the water a little further in. Carefully, he swooped his hand down and stuck his fingers in the lake water, giving himself a moment before flying back over to Lauren and shrugging. "Fairly warm today. A little chilly, but the sun will warm it up in the afternoon," Zal noted, tucking his huge black wings away. "It's best in the summer."

Lauren laughed and walked with Zalman over to the shore of the lake. She shrugged her shoulders and nodded, agreeing that the water temperature could be either way. Even in the summer, the water could be kind of chilly. It was nice that they had all of the wilderness for the students and animals. She thought that the lake was her favorite out of them all. It was definitely the prettiest. Once spring came around, flowers would be blooming all around the lake. It would be beautiful. Her favorite season was spring for that reason. The blooming flowers made nature look full of life. Winter made everything look bare and dead.
Oh, and she really liked Fall because the trees would change to warm colors like brown, orange, and red. Summer was great. It was the best season to have a soft drink outside in the heat and swimming. Definitely swimming was on the summer list. Watermelon was a nice treat to eat outside. "Oh, I bet it is! I think I like it here the best. Just imagine it. Spring is coming soon, right? This whole place would be covered with beautiful, blooming flowers and a very blue sky with white clouds. It would be quite the sight to see.."

The boy nodded. "I can't wait to see it. I think someone told be that it's the most beautiful scene anyone could see," Zal replied, dragging his feet through the sand. After a few moments, he asked, "What are you looking for? I mean, like, what are you hoping to find, as in a good friend, a relationship, or what?" It was an odd question out of the blue, and meant to be a conversation starter.

Nah, there were plenty of beautiful scenery in nature. Lauren didn't think spring coming around the corner with blooming flowers was the most beautiful scene. She was actually interested in that kind of stuff, seeing a beautiful scenery like that. There was a certain sunset she admired the most. The sky would be filled with different shades of pink, and blues, and reds. The red and blue would mix together and sometimes you would see some purple in the sky. It was amazing how nature surprised people with its beauty. Lauren walked up to the edge of the lake and looked down at her reflection in the water.
"I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for. All I know is that I don't have it. I want it and yet I don't... I'm just complicated." Her reddish pink gaze shifted from the water up to the sky. "My father told me that I'm similar to a butterfly. Pretty to see, hard to catch." Her eyes narrowed and she looked over at Zalman with a disappointed look on her face.
"I know everyone is afraid of being alone. Most people... but I actually believe that there will be no one waiting for me. All of the people I cared about were taken away from me. They were the only ones that really understood me and it's not because they were my parents. My caretaker was shot for giving shelter to a half-blood, which was me. I practically killed her, knowing that they were going to come after her, too. I'm not going to be responsible for anyone else... They can make their own mistakes and suffer the consequences. I don't want anything to do with it."
Her eyes widened a little and she looked away from Zalman. I can't believe I just told him all of that. I barely even know the guy... Her hands clenched into fists and she growled to herself. So weak... How could I have let my emotions take over? Lauren took deep breaths and calmed herself down, unclenching her fists and letting her hands hang from her sides. She decided it was time to take a seat, and she sat down with her knees pulled up to her chest. Her bangs fell into her eyes and she curled herself up close. "I'm scared..." Her eyes were starting to fill with tears, and she tried her hardest to keep them in. Honestly, she needed to cry. There were so many times she wanted to cry, but she didn't because it would show weakness. Lauren forced a smile on her face and looked up at Zalman. "I'll be okay. Don't worry about it."

Knowing the feeling, Zal let her continue on with her story, taking a seat beside when she did. "It's safe to be who you are, to love, heck, here at the academy," Zalman said. "No one is going to be hurt because of you. That's why Claire made this place." The boy sighed and sat quiet, looking out across the water. After she said she was scared, he turned back to look at her, and met her gaze, shaking his head at her saying she was fine. "Lauren, you're not fine. Otherwise... otherwise, why tell me what you did?" Zal said, wanting to hug her in a friendly manner, but knowing that wouldn't be wise. They hardly knew each other, and she might take it the wrong way. Perhaps if she fell into his arms, he would comfort her, but all he used was his words at the time. "And.. I'm here for you. Let me be the reminder that hope is better than fear. So don't be scared. Be hopeful."

Finally, someone would actually listen to her instead of trying to compare backgrounds with her about their life. It's like someone telling a backstory and then the other person tried to one up that story like they deserve more pity. Pssh! Lauren didn't want to be pitied. Zalman said that she could be herself.
That was easier said than done. She wanted to be herself but then she would act the complete opposite. Maybe it was because she was scared of something but what. She nodded, agreeing that everyone was safe because of the academy. The bloodshed still worried her deeply.
"I.." Lauren sighed and held her knees close to her chest, burying her face in them. Her long hair draped over her shoulders, hiding the side of her face. She peeked out through her curtain of white hair and sat up, looking over at Zalman.
"I wish I could hug you.. I really need one but it's okay. Thank you for opening my eyes a little bit more. I think I understand what you mean. You might have saved me with your words."

Zalman smiled in a way that was meant to be comforting. Opening his arms, he offered a hug, knowing Jess was reasonable and would understand that some people, some friends, needed comforting. "Of course," he muttered, brushing a bit of white hairs out of his eyes.

Lauren looked up at the sky once more, smiling faintly. Zalman was a good friend to have. Maybe he understood her as well. He said all the right words, helping Lauren understand it more. He either knew what he was doing or it was just luck that he said the right words. In the corner of her eye, she could see Zalman's movements. Zalman was opening his arms to give her a hug. She thought he was saying of course like accepting her thanks for him sparing her his wise words. But, he wanted to give her that hug she kind of asked for without asking directly for it. Lauren scooted over and hesitated a little bit, wrapping her arms around her friend slowly. "Zal..." She closed her eyes and a single tear rolled down her cheek.

Zalman noticed Lauren hesitate, but was pleased to see that she was willing to accept his comfort. "It's okay," he whispered, looking out across the lake. It had never occurred to him that Lauren had had a difficult past, though it was expected for half-bloods. Zal himself wondered how he was so chipper, even if his own past was not the greatest.

"Uh.. I'm sorry I called you Zal. I didn't even ask if I could call you by that nickname.." Lauren hoped that he would forgive her. Who knew! Zalman could've hated that name, and Lauren called him it without his permission to give him the nickname or call him by it. She knew that she would like it if people called her Lauren instead of Lawrence. Some people went by different names, and they could've been sensitive about certain nicknames. He could've had a brother that teased him by calling him Zal or something like that. You never know.
When Zalman told her it was okay to hold her and that everything was going to be okay, Lauren felt like bursting out in tears. A few more tears rolled down her cheeks, and she cried softly to herself. The crying didn't last for long, and she relaxed in Zalman's arms. Something about sharing a hug with a friend felt magical. Or, maybe it was just with Zalman. Friendship is magic!
"I-I think I feel better now..."
(I think it would be just about time the sun sets.)

|Omg "Friendship is magic" is a My Little Pony reference | "I'm okay with the nickname," he replied simply, noticing that the sky was starting to turn orange-red in some places. "I'm glad you're better. Now, look. The sunset. It's beautiful here." |Sorry it's so short. Had to deal with a brother crisis|

(Haha exactly lol.)
That was good. Lauren was relieved to hear that. It was by accident, anyway. It just came out that way. Her cheeks turned pink as she snuggled in closer a little bit. He has a girlfriend... I shouldn't get too comfortable. Oh, heck. What girl could resist Zalman? He was so sweet and friendly. Zalman was worried the whole time about the things he said and did, thinking that she might think he was hitting on her. Now, Lauren felt like she was hitting on him. Zalman had perfect timing when he told her to look at the sunset. That was the time she was about to pull out of the hug. (Aw<3 So cute! He told her to look at the sunset. That would make her day.) Lauren followed Zalman's gaze to the orange-red sunset. "Oh, wow... You're right. It is beautiful." Mother, can you see it? It's another beautiful sunset like we used to watch up on that hill with the cherry blossom trees.
(And, it's okay. Haha I get it. Brothers lol.)

|So annoying >.<|
Zalman smiled. Hospitality was a trait he enjoyed possessing. Even if it meant offering up a shoulder to cry on or a bite to eat, he enjoyed being kind, because it made him feel happy. According to Marley in A Christmas Carol, "Kindness is addicting. One act of kindness leads to another." And it was true. Having nothing to say in response, Zalman just sat there, watching the sun set with a friend. Unless someone told him, it wouldn't have come to mind for Zal that people liked him, or at least they found him amusing more than most. Perhaps he was a jester in some ways, but he still didn't think he was all that great. But everyone has those feelings, right? He didn't know.

The neko realized how close she was to Zalman, and she scooted over a little bit to give them both some space. Her black tail flicked back and forth, but she made sure not to make it flick around too much. She didn't want her tail to hit against Zalman's wings. Her tail and ears were sensitive. Lauren wanted to be careful just in case Zalman was sensitive about his wings. "Oh, I wish I could take a picture of it. I think that's what I'm going to do for a little while. I want to take pictures of nature during its most beauty."
It interested her a lot. Mostly she just liked looking at it. But, even a picture, couldn't describe that sunset she watched with Zalman. It was even more beautiful sharing it with someone. Lauren smiled as she watched the sun set, sitting back and wrapping her arms around her legs. "I guess we should head back to the academy before it gets too dark." (Haha yeah. It would be cute<3)

As night fell over the two half-bloods, so did unease in Zalman. He may have liked the darkness once, but he just didn't feel.. safe, as though someone was watching him. "Maybe we should head in for the night?" Zal suggested, stretching his arms and wings. "It's getting late."

It was kind of creepy roaming around in the dark. But, the animals were supposed to be harmless or at least not like death harmful. Of course, it always felt like someone was watching you when it was dark. That was when most predators would strike. (I was actually thinking about getting Lauren attacked by an animal but I don't know. We'll just see. Maybe in a different thread.
Or, Zalman could get hurt xD That would definitely hurt Lauren especially if he was close to dying. He's her only friend. But, that was just an idea.) Lauren watched the sun set some more, and it got to the point where she agreed to go back with Zalman. They needed to hurry up and get back before it got too dark. Who knew what would happen and yet... they were supposed to be safe at the academy.
It didn't make sense if they put harmful animals with the students in the wilderness. That would be like trying to kill off your own species. "Okay. Let's head back." The neko rose up to her feet and stretched out her arm, reaching to help give Zalman a hand. "Haha~ Now, I'm helping you up." Oh, she could easily make him grab her hand and she could push him into the water, but it wasn't the right time for playing around just in case there was something out there ready to attack.

|Haha, I was referring to "Shadow" or Opal, but yeah, another thread an animal attack perhaps | Zalman, laughing a little with Lauren, took his friend's hand and stood up, itching his shoulder because he couldn't shake the feeling that eyes were on him, finding a way to use the moment he had spent with Lauren against him and her. "To be continued," Zal remarked playfully. "I'll ask you for the second time ever: You want me to take you back in the sky? We're pretty far, and it would be way safer."

(I just realized that the girl in my siggy and my avatar are holding something lol. And, yeah. I kind of figured you meant Opal.)
Hey, if the bird was feeling weird, then that wasn't good especially if he wanted to fly back. Lauren looked at Zalman in shock when he asked her that question again. He had a point, though. It would be safer to travel back to the academy through the sky. They were both feeling like eyes were on them until Zalman asked that. Then, Lauren was completely unaware of her surroundings, focusing on keeping her fear of heights a secret. It was embarrassing! That saying about a little kid's cat getting stuck in a tree. It bothered her that people would think that way of her fear of heights. "I-I may... or may not be a little bit scared of heights."
(Just make him pick her little self up and fly off, anyway xD It would be funny lol.)

|It's not all his style, but okay|
Scared of heights!? Zal wondered, confused. Maybe if you didn't have wings, it would make sense, but you could never truly appreciate flying unless you've felt it with your own skin, your own heart. There was nothing like flying open in the sky, knowing nearly nothing from the ground could get to you. After a moment's consideration, he stretched his wings out all the way, scooped up the nervous Lauren, and and soared up into the sky, hovering for a moment to let Lauren catch her bearings, then slowly flying towards the Academy, grinning softly.

(Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.)
It was easy for the bird half-blood to say. He had wings and was practically born to fly. Lauren, on the other hand, did not have wings and she was afraid of heights. Yeah, she didn't want to plummet down to her death. Surprisingly, she enjoyed her life even though it was a lonely life she lived. The man had outstretched his wings, which made the girl think he was going to fly off on his own. Her feet were swept off the ground, and she let out a squeak of surprise. Lauren was being carried by Zalman, and she looked down to see if he was just carrying her. Holy bananas! He was carrying her alright... in the sky! She hesitated and start freaking out a little bit, holding onto Zalman. Her eyes met his and she growled at him. "You better not drop me." she threatened and shuddered when she looked down again. "S-So high..."

Laughing a little, he tried his hardest to make his flying as smooth and calm as he could. "Don't look down, because you know what's there," he said, also thinking about life in terms of the past and future, "But look ahead and enjoy the view, not fear it." Grinning, he let Lauren hold onto him, making sure he was holding her in a safe way, like a prince would carry a princess out of a fiery demise, or like a mother would hold a baby. It was all too familiar for Zalman, but he had helped people get places several times in his life, and they all knew it was out of kindness, not love. So, with a tiny bit of the sun behind him, Zalman flew on, and already, in the distance on the horizon, the pale lights of the Academy was visible just barely against the trees.

Lauren gulped and listened to Zalman, looking in front of her. Soon, the sun would set completely and the stars would start sparkling faintly with their light. She was glad that she didn't live in the city. All the lights turned on in a city would make the stars disappear. Lauren liked to watch a starry sky every once in a while. It was beautiful. She still growled, remembering what Zalman said about looking down. Why did he have to be right about everything? Lauren just laid there in his arms and sighed, trying to take calm breaths so that she wouldn't freak out and slip from Zalman's grip. "I could've walked back on my own, you know, but thank you anyway." I have been thanking him for a lot today...

Zal looked down from his course, into Lauren's gaze. Black wings almost invisible in the dark, he seemed like Peter Pan in some ways. "I'm always willing to help a friend," he responded, smiling all the while. Looking up to the stars, the light of the distant suns twinkled against his cornea. "The sky is so beautiful tonight," Zalman noted, something most men didn't bother mentioning. But Zal respected nature and all it's beauty. He didn't care if he was beefed out, or if his muscles bulged when he flexed, or if woman gathered themselves around him like he was some sort of hero. No, he much rather preferred being him, and letting people like him for what and who he was.

That wasn't hard to believe. Zalman had been a kind gentleman to Lauren. If he was that good around strangers, he was sure to be an even better friend. It seemed like it was in his nature to do things like that and act that way towards others. That was nice, but he could've been hiding something as well. You never know with people. Lauren continued to follow his gaze to the view all around them. Nature had blessed them with another beautiful scenery.
Nature is definitely showing its beauty tonight. It was weird for Zalman to talk about nature like he did. Most guys wouldn't take notice of it. Or, they would but wouldn't say anything about it. It was still pretty cool that Zalman respected nature's beauty like Lauren did. "Yeah it is.. And I'm a friend to you?"

"I don't mind. We can be friends.. if you want." Lauren smiled a small, sweet smile and continued to lay there in his strong arms. Zalman was an innocent soul alright. Most of his actions were pure. His words helped light the way for her. Her cherry glaze eyes glimmered in the light of the twinkling stars. Your eyes could say things with just a certain look that you couldn't put into words yourself. Lauren felt even more relaxed when they started to decent slowly.
Finally, she could touch the ground soon. The land where she belonged. That wasn't that bad. She was getting herself ready to step onto the ground. "I guess... it wasn't that bad." she said and giggled to herself. "Thank you, Zalman. This was fun. I just hope I remember it all. Knowing me, I might get lost again~"

The response warmed Zalman's heart. All he ever wanted was friends, and here he was, being confirmed as a friend to someone he had only recently met - and wigged out. Returning to a vertical state, touching ground without a bump, Zal set Lauren down and tucked his wings away into his back. Smiling, he nodded, chuckling to himself. "Well, then, just call for me and I'll point you in the right direction again," he said, waving. "I'll see you again."

Lauren also felt a warm feeling in her chest. Maybe she wasn't going to be alone after all. She had Zalman as her friend. Now, she wanted to know if she would have that "special someone" waiting for her. It didn't matter if she didn't have one waiting for her, but like most girls, she hoped there was one. Mostly she was curious about having someone like that in her life. Romance made her curious and yet she was disgusted by it at the same time. Oh, what would she do. Haha. Lauren wasn't going to worry too much about it.
Friends were good enough for her. They were finally descending to the ground smoothly. Ugh, if Zal made any hesitation, Lauren would freak out. She stepped carefully onto the ground and wanted to hug it but that would be just weird. I missed you so much, earth! She turned around to face Zalman and listened to him say something about her calling for him whenever she got lost. "Yeah, just so I could get even more lost like before." Lauren rolled her eyes playfully and waved at Zalman. "Okay. See ya!"
