Alone on the bus, Opal smiled to herself, lost in her own thoughts. Clutched between her fingers was an ivory-colored urn, which she pet the engraving of lovingly. Her head turned to the forest whipping by outside, she couldn't help but think to herself, and feel the excitement within her turn her blood a hot lava of deviousness. The black-haired nineteen year-old hardly noticed the scenes change before her dark brown eyes until the sudden lurch of the bus stopping returned her attention to the real world. Opal stood, slung a black backpack over one shoulder and a fake leather purse in the crook of her elbow and started to leave, urn in hand. "Have fun, kid," the bus driver, an elderly man smelling of rich tobacco said, beaming. Opal turned her mysterious eyes on him and smiled a chilling smile. "Don't worry," she said, secrecy layered into every tone of her voice "I'm going to have more fun than a pack of starving wolves at the throats of a group of fawns." Slapping a one-hundred dollar bill on the dashboard of the bus, she hopped off the last step, her black tall heeled boots pounding the ground with a low clack. "We made it, daddy," Opal mused, holding the ivory urn to her stomach after looking about the Academy, the crunch of tires on gravel still heavy on the air from the retreating bus. "We found their spawning ground." Smiling at her own joke with a slight chuckle, Opal breathed in the smell of the forest and donated a few moments to savoring the moment.

Who could blame her for taking it all in. It was an unusually large school with a wide variety of wilderness. Of course, a human wouldn't understand the importance of the wilderness. The wilderness was meant for half-bloods to feel more comfortable and at home. The school was meant for half-bloods. A rather loud yawn interrupted the newcomer's moment of savoring the scenery. There was a dark-haired wolf boy sitting on the steps in front of the school. He took it upon himself to check for newbie half-bloods and give them a tour around the school. It was fun directing newbies, but it was kind of hard if he lost one or two here and there.
Elias saw how hard Angelica worked, and he thought he would help by greeting the newbies. His silver greyish eyes effortlessly shifted over to the bus stop to see a beautiful girl hop off the bus with an urn in her hands. His tail wagged a little, and he got up and walked over to the girl. "Hey!" he called as he approached her, giving her a little wave of his hand. "I see we got another newbie in the school." He put on a friendly smile and stopped in front of her, reaching out to shake hands but reminded himself she was carrying an urn. He pulled his hand away and studied the urn closely.
"That's a pretty urn." The wolf didn't bother to press on and ask her who's ashes were they. He also ignored saying something like, "You must be holding someone dear to you.." It sounded like something he would blurt out, but he knew that most of the half-bloods had it harder than him. He didn't know his real parents. They abandoned him when he was just a baby and then he was found by a half-blood family. They thought he was just a wolf until he turned into a little boy at the age of 5. He was hospitalized for most of his life and yeah... Yeah, he had it rough but not as rough as everyone else at the academy. "A-Anyway, I'm Elias. What's your name, pretty lady?"

Opal shifted her gaze to the boy beside her, and glanced down at the urn when he said it was pretty. Great, she thought, realizing at that moment how difficult it was going to be to seem nice. I'm going to have to start pretending I'm not planning on murdering - er, extincting - every last half-blood in time to come by first gathering data about them. Woo-hoo! Smiling falsely, though it appeared real, she tucked the urn into a padded pocket in her purse, brushing a black strand of hair behind her ear. "Thanks," Opal said, secretly wanting to punch the dude in the face for mentioning her father's urn. Not stupid, she didn't tell him who it was. Information was a blade that could be wielded only if given the chance, and she knew that first hand. That's why Opal was there, or at least part of her master plan. "I'm Opal," the girl responded, wondering why in the world this tailed person would call her a pretty lady. It made her want to puke.

Elias wasn't aware that the girl in front of him was a human. Even if he did know that she was a human, it wouldn't have made much of a difference. He would probably warn her about the consequences of a human entering the school. It was supposed to be death, but a few humans managed to sneak by it. They really needed to check twice before sending out the information to half-bloods because too many humans were showing up at the academy. It wasn't that bad, though. What would be bad was if they got a rotten egg... which Elias didn't realize that the rotten egg was standing in front of him. He simply nodded his head with a small smile on his face when the girl thanked him for complimenting the urn. "Well, nice to meet you, Opal. I'm not the one that usually checks for the newbies so you might see someone different out here next time. Most likely it would be Angelica. She's pretty cool and super nice. So, are you hungry? Or, do you want to take a look around first?"

"Oh, I don't know," Opal said, musing her thoughts. "I am feeling a little hungry. You mind showing me to the cafeteria?" The girl beamed, pulling her backpack further up her shoulder. The 5-inch knife she had hidden in a secret pouch in her waistband was starting to bother her, especially after sitting with it pressed into her bicep the entire bus-ride. Opal knew she needed to rearrange it so it wasn't so painful, plus she had to pee. Evil mastermind or not, she had a bladder, but Elisa didn't need to know that she had to 'go'.

His small smile grew bigger, and his muscles started to relax. For some reason, he was tense around her as he talked to her. Maybe it was because she was so pretty. Or, he was afraid he wouldn't be that good at giving tours. Angelica had a lot a practice on it, and she was part of the student council so she knew the school as well as Claire did. "Sure! I'm getting hungry, too." He started out ahead of her and ran up the steps, stopping halfway and turning around. Elias smiled at Opal and waved at her, telling her to hurry up. Oh, well. They weren't really in a rush, but he wanted to make sure they had enough time for a tour. There was a lot to show her, and he would show her the basics first anyway. "By the way, I'm a wolf half-blood if you didn't know already." he said and referred to his wolf ears that twitched slightly.

Following, but at her own pace, Opal smiled at his remark to the wolf. Well, at least he knows it's obvious, she thought, silently. "Cool! I guess that I'm not that far off. I'm a half fox." Opal grinned wider. A fox was smart, mischievous, and sneaky. She had thought long and hard about what she wanted her 'animal half' to be. "I guess I'm lucky, not having any characteristics. I was able to hide out for a long time in the human world."|We don't have to make another thread for the cafeteria. We're lazy |

"Half-fox, huh?" Elias looked at the top of her head and tried to look behind her without being accused of being a pervert. Her tail and ears were missing! Or, she was a human lying about being a half-blood. Foxes were sneaky and smart. He would have to watch out for her if he had any secrets to hide. He didn't have any so far. Elias still didn't understand Opal's situation. But, the thought of her being a human kept on coming back to his mind. A part of him inside was telling him that she was a human. The other part of him wanted to hear out why she had no animal attributes. He frowned slightly and walked up to the front double doors, opening one and holding it for Opal to go in first. "Ladies first." he said with a fake smile. It bothered him that Opal was so different. Could it be possible for a half-blood to not have animal attributes? He would understand if she was something like a penguin or a fish. Those kind of half-bloods didn't have animal attributes. Or, at least none that were very noticeable like wolf ears and a wolf tail.

Opal smiled, studying his face for a moment. Curiosity is dangerous, half-blood, she thought, giving him a fake court bow on the way through the door. She knew it was a good excuse to say she was lucky, because one her 'quest' with half-bloods, she had met several land-creatures that had no attributes and were able to stay hidden in plain sight. "Wow!" Opal exclaimed taking a sniff. "There must be a lot of students here! And everything smells... fresh!" Opal couldn't actually smell the other half-bloods, but she needed to appear 'normal' in the presence of the enemy.

The wolf chuckled at the court bow Opal had performed on her way through the door. It wasn't anything royal. He was just being a gentleman. Elias followed after her so that she wouldn't go walking off on her own and getting lost. That would suck if he lost a newbie. Angelica would probably never trust him with newbie duty again. And, he liked his job. It felt like he was doing something to help out the academy. As they walked into the cafeteria, Elias looked over at the newbie. "Woah there. Calm down. They'll make sure you're on a full stomach so don't worry about it." He started to walk ahead of her, gesturing for her to follow him. He turned around as he walked backwards a little bit. "You never did explain. That's probably because I didn't ask." Elias paused a moment to think about how to ask her. It was so personal and awkward, though. "You say you're a fox half-blood, right? You should have animal attributes, a tail and ears, unless you're really a fish. It's okay. I won't make fun of you."

Internally, Opal growled. It wasn't even a humanly thing to do, but inside her head, she snarled and tore her own eyes out because the man before her had no brain. Maintaining her smile, she approached the counter and took a wrapped ham sandwich, some fruit, and a water. "Just so you know," she said, smiling, "Some half-bloods are born without attributes. In fact, while in the human world, some of my friends were half land animal, and they didn't have any attributes either." Opal took her tray and sat down at a nearby table.

Elias picked up a wrapped cheeseburger, a bottle of water, and an apple. Apples was his favorite fruit. What the heck? Maybe Opal was the unfortunate one... or the lucky one since she didn't have any animal attributes. She could hide in the human world very easily from the other humans. "Well, I kind of figured half-bloods like wolves, foxes, and cats would have their animal attributes visible. I guess you just didn't get any for some reason." That was good, though. Opal could pass for a human and never get hunted down. She smells like a human... Maybe it's because she's in her human form.
Still... I have to pick up something that could tell whether she's a human or a half-blood. Opal was a very strange girl. She had Elias guessing, and he didn't like guessing what people were because she could be either a human or a half-blood. Which one was she? Elias still looked unsure as he picked up his tray and followed Opal to the nearby table. "I know not having animal attributes can hide you from the humans, but wouldn't you like to have them? I think they are pretty cool." Luckily, for Opal, Elias had a thing for girls with animal attributes in her human form.

Opal sighed dramatically as she tore open the top of her chocolate milk. "Well, sometimes I think it would be cool to have a tail, or at least ears," she 'admitted'. No, she was perfectly fine with how she was. Being a half-blood would complicate things. "But life is life, and so am I," she said, chuckling to herself. The sandwiches were good. Too good. Half-bloods have been conspiring to make all foods delicious so that humans have no choice but to bow down! Opal thought actually amusing herself with the ridiculous idea. No, you fool, the other side of Opal's brain said, it's just good. Don't kid yourself!

His wolf ears laid on the back of his head, twitching slightly in reaction to the girl's dramatic sigh. Did she have trouble opening the milk or something? That cracked a joke in Elias' head. Haha! Don't cry over spilled milk! He almost laughed out loud, but he managed to keep it inside. A grin was plastered on his face as he tried to cover it up. Elias nodded and started to unwrap the cheeseburger. His eyes were glued to the cheeseburger, and he devoured it whole. Half-bloods were pretty surprising especially when they ate sometimes.
Elias was a wolf after all. They didn't have cheeks so it made it harder for him to eat in human form so he just gobbled it down. He didn't care if Opal thought he was weird. She was kind of weird, too. "Yeah... Life can be a pain in the butt. So, what kind of fox are you? There are black foxes, arctic foxes, all kinds of different colored foxes, fennec foxes, kit foxes, swift foxes..."

Opal shrugged, only blinking at his behavior. "I haven't really ever bothered to check. I'm just your average russet-colored fox." She grinned thoughtfully. Realistic. Not many people bother to check some things, and that includes humans. After finishing half of her sandwich, she responded with a perfect comeback: "Think of it this way: What kind of wolf are you?" Opal questioned, assuming he either didn't know, or that he did, which would mean that she was only acting - er, being - human - er, half-blood. You know what this narrator means.

It was okay if she didn't know. Elias didn't exactly know what kind of wolf he was. Maybe just your average black wolf like Opal was your average russet-colored fox. His parents would've known what kind of wolf he was. Too bad he never met them. Nobody wanted a runt, but the Bixbys didn't mind it. His ears and tail drooped when he had finished his cheeseburger so quickly. He really wished he grabbed another one.
The wolf opened up the bottle of water and took a sip of it. It was cold and refreshing. He liked to think of water as the flavor of nature. His ears perked up when he was asked what kind of wolf he was. "Well, I'm not sure about me either. I'm guessing I'm a mix of a grey wolf and a black tundra wolf. It's hard to say."

Opal turned her head and raised her eyebrow momentarily in an I told you so kind of way, finishing her sandwich. "So, what's the gossip of the academy, then?" She asked, wanting to not only get a lead on where to start her, ahem, research, but also to appear friendly.
