Lusaki was very confused, until the stick came down, faster. Lusaki pushed it up- with her hand.

"Careful! Don't get your hands between the sticks, or that will hurt a lot." That said, Opal swiveled the stick for another side-bat. "Keep going. I'll go faster and faster. Tell me to stop when it's too much." The stick curled under for a shot towards Lusaki's ankles, and hopefully she would know to knock it away, not block.

Lusaki looked at it, then tried to bat it away with her leg.

... which probably hurt. Opal winced, hoping it wouldn't be too painful, but didn't stop. She swung the stick in an attempt to hit towards Lusaki's side, then over her head, then down again at her legs.

Lusaki winced a bit, but then used her stick to push away the other bats. But when it came to her leg, Lusaki stepped over it.

Pausing, Opal pursed her lips. "When I do a low swing, you want to knock it away, hard. The harder you hit it away, or more equally, the less painful it is on you're arms. Try it." She swiveled the long branch, and aimed a quick bat to Lusaki's ankles, so if she didn't do it correctly, she would at least get a bruise.
|Don't know if you can tell, but Opal's going easy training on Lusaki|

(I can tell.)
Lusaki blinked and batted it away, swinging her stick like a gulf club.

"Well, I'm sure you're exhausted now," Opal lied, not really knowing how to train Lusaki. I mean, if she really wants me to train her, hard-core, I will, but... I don't want her to become a monster. I don't want her to be looked down on like I am. But then I'd have to kill her. Opal smiled, tossed her stick aside.

"No I'm not!" Lusaki pouted. "You just swung the stick slowly, how am I supposed to be tired?"

"I-I just assumed... Okay," Opal protested, holding her hands up. "Well, why don't we work on agility strength? You can't be fast and strong otherwise."

"Okay!" Lusaki smiled. "Do I have to run around a tree?"

Opal shook her head, but didn't say no. She doesn't need hard training. "Just go around that tree once," She said, pointing to a large oak a half-mile oak, which would result in a mile run. "I'll time you. Lets see if you can get faster and faster each time. Ready? GO." One.. two... three.. I hope she'll be okay... 5... 6..."

Lusaki listened. When Opal said Go, Lusaki sped off. Now there was one thing about Lusaki- she wasn't fast, but she was agile. Lusaki ran, and by 40 seconds (I'm assuming a half-mile is that long) she got to the large oak a half-mile oak, swerved around it without slowing down, and then by 84 got back. Lusaki heaved a breath with a smile. "How long was it?"

"About eighty-four seconds. Great endurance. Probably better than-" Opal bit her lip, shook her head. She's be a great messenger, she thought, then instantly banished the thought. "Okay, let me know when you're ready, and I'll count again."

Lusaki caught her breath. "Okay, ready." Last time was eighty four. She would do better.

"Go!" Opal said as soon as Lusaki said she was ready. In her head, she counted, fretting about how she was working the girl too hard, that she really should just demand they go in now, that she wasn't going to be trained too hard, because she could train Lusaki way harder.

Lusaki ran as fast as her legs could take her. In between each stride, it was as if she was trying to do a jump-split. By 35 seconds she got to the tree and turned. By 80 seconds she got back, huffing and puffing heavily. "How much time did it-" Huff, puff. "Take for me to run?"

"A minute and twenty. That's... really good," Opal praised, surprised. "Just jog around a few times, work on cardiovascular strength, then you can run again."

"What's cardiovascular strength?" Lusaki asked as she jogged a small circle around Opal.

"How long you can keep your breathing steady and your heart from exploding," Opal explained, stretching to jog beside her. "C'mon." Leading the way, she started towards the tree, a quick but steady pace, taking deep breaths to keep her breathing steady and oxygen in her brain.

Lusaki nodded and followed her model, trying to steady her breathing as she looked at the forests around her.

"Why do you want to fight like me?" Opal asked after some time, her gaze ahead, but hazy, like she was in deep thought. "I mean.... I killed people. Why would you want to be like me?"
|

"Because you fight good." Lusaki herself had no idea why, so she tried her best to answer.

Opal thought some more. "Everyone knows that," She protested. "I don't want you to have to face.... I don't want you to be faced with hatred."
|

"They don't hate you." Lusaki pointed out, trying to keep herself from gasping for breath.

Opal laughed at that, not because it was funny, but because it was stupid. "Oh yeah, they despise me. I kill and torture half-bloods, Lusaki. What else could there be to hate?" She frowned, and though it was nice to vent a little, it didn't feel right. She didn't want to turn Lusaki into a monster, and what if she felt trapped by what she knew? It almost made her a little dizzy.

"No, they don't hate you, they are afraid of you, nervous. They want to know how to stand up for themselves, but they can't find the voice or the trust that other people lend. And so then they pretend it isn't happening." Lusaki said.

Opal ran on, silent. "Lusaki, I'm afraid for you because I don't want to you to become me...." She frowned, finished her lap and paused as a gesture for Lusaki to do the same. "I can't change. It's who I am. And... I want them to hate and fear me and... follow every command I make! And things are about to change. The academy... it will be different. You're the only one that knows the time is coming for me to make the next move, and..... why do I trust you? I just-" She broke off, resisting tears, looked at her feet, a child.

Lusaki looked at Opal. "Opal, even if you do want to rule the academy, do you think causing fear would help?" Lusaki asked. "If this was a part of you, we could always change it. I don't care how it turns out, I want to be next to you to see it." She took a shaky breath. "And even if others see you as Shadow, I know Opal, the real Opal is nothing like what you said was a part of you." Lusaki chose her words carefully. "But I still want to be next to you."

The brown eyes turned to Lusaki, and she took a breath. "Thank you," she responded, but her face was grim. "But I am doing this for me and my father... and to finish what the HBES started in my own way." She sighed, ran her fingers through her hair. "I'm going to go. I'll see you next Sunday. You can exercise as much as you want. Goodbye." She smiled, then started off into the trees, goal focused, mind set. I'm not changing, not for me or anyone. I'm Shadow. And nothing is going to stand in my way.
